The current owner's manual reads that MB does not recommend handset usage without a cradle due to engine control, air bag deployment and electronic interface issues?
Located on page 1 of both bluetooth device installation instructions it is stated "The Mercedes-Benz approved/recommended Bluetooth Phones can be utilized inside Mercedes-Benz vehicles."

How will the MB Bluetooth system identify pairing (connecting) priority with the BT system? (i.e. will the system find the last phone used if both spouses are in the vehicle at the same time using BT handsets?)

Both bluetooth adaptors will look for the last connected phone for approximately 20 seconds. After the 20 seconds the adaptors will look for any of the phones in memory in no particular order.

How many phones are remembered/paired?

The MHI Bluetooth Interface Module can remember 4 phones and the V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adapter can remember up to 2 phones.

What is the range of bluetooth?

The range is largely dependant on which phone is being used, each phone has a different range. Also the battery level of your phone makes a difference. The approximate range is 30 feet.

It has been stated that uncradled handsets may pose a problem with reception and signal strength in the current S Class due to infrared glass?

In certain vehicles, models that are equipped with IR glass and under certain circumstances customers may have less signal strength and because of that the audio quality on the landside will decrease. The performance will depend highly on the area and is the same as using the phone stand alone in the vehicle. Vehicles that have IR glass include: CL, S-Class, select M-Class with rear A/C, and select R-Class with rear A/C.

How many phones can be connected at a time?

Using either the MHI Bluetooth Interface Module or the V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adapter only one phone may be connected via bluetooth at a time.

How does the cradle adaptor know which phone to connect to when there are more than one of the previous paired phones in the vehicle?

Both bluetooth adaptors will look for the last connected phone for approximately 20 seconds. After the 20 seconds they will look for any of the phones in memory in no particular order.

Using the V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adapter what happens when there are two phones in memory and a third phone is added? Which phone is removed, 1 or 2?

When the third phone is added the last connected phone will NOT be removed.

Using the MHI Bluetooth Interface Module what happens when there are four phones in memory and a fifth phone is added? Which of the four phones is removed?

When the fifth phone is paired & connected one of the four previously paired & connected phones must be dropped. There are phones 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the adaptor history with 1 being the last phone connected to the vehicle. When the fifth phone is added either phone 2, 3, or 4 will be dropped. There is no logic behind this and the dropped phone may be different each time

How do I disconnect bluetooth from the vehicle?

If there is not a phone call active press and hold the TEL key until the radio/head unit shows that the phone is disconnected. If there is a call active use the phone's menu to disconnect. Each phone is different so please refer to phone's manual.

How will warranty diagnostic time be charged for retail handsets?

Communication system hardware. It is very simple to determine if the handset is working properly, simply make or receive a call outside the vehicle with the handset in question. It is highly recommended that dealers have a working MHI cradle/handset combination that can be docked to a vehicle to test the system.

Will there be any programming required with the MB Star Diagnostic System tool in the vehicle for Bluetooth?

Why is it that sometimes when pressing keys on radio/head unit one of the keys pressed gets stuck?

Using select phones and pressing keys very rapidly can result in the DTMF tone getting stuck. There is nothing wrong with the vehicle system and this cannot be fixed as it's a stand alone phone issue.

Sometimes my phone does not connect to my car, why?

Try the following in the order listed: 1) power cycling the phone 2) Disconnect/reconnect the bluetooth adaptor 3)Perform a master reset of the phone 4) Make sure that the BT Link (port) of the Phone is not busy because of some kind of previous BT interaction.

Why when I leave the car for a few minutes and get back in my phone is not recognized?
If the vehicle is left on or did not go to sleep and the phone is disconnected by going out of the range of cradle adaptor the customer must tell the adaptor to reconnect (search) for the phone again. This "manual" reconnect can be initiated by pressing the TEL key on the radio/head unit. The cradle adaptor will search for approximately 20 seconds then automatically reconnect to the last connected phone.

Why does the S Class have a Bluetooth sync option in vehicle settings and will recognize a Bluetooth device and yet you still have to have a Bluetooth enabled cradle?

The bluetooth sync option in vehicle settings is to be used for the following: 1) Connecting a PDA, Laptop, or other bluetooth(telephone) device to transfer VCards (contacts) to the vehicle's address book. 2) With a phone in the cradle or connected to the bluetooth adaptor connect a PDA, Laptop, or other bluetooth device to the vehicle and dial up to the internet. 3) With a phone in the cradle or connected to the bluetooth adaptor connect a bluetooth headset to the vehicle and this would give the customer private mode."

How can I take a call with me out of the car?
Check with your phone manual. In general this option called "use handset" or "disconnect bluetooth" in the in Call setup menu. Using this menu will allow the user to take the call out of the car. Some phones have the option "switch audio". This option transfers only the audio to your handset.

Why does the customer sometimes see new voicemail notification on the radio/HU(head unit)?
Using select GSM(ATT/Cingular/T-Mobile) phones, new voicemail notifications will be transferred to the radio/HU.

Why does my phone ring different when it is connected to the car via Bluetooth?

Depending on which ring setting and style is selected in the phone the audible ring may be different. In each case (loud, soft, VIB, VIB/Ring, Silent) there will be an auditable ring through the vehicle speakers. Also the phone may support polyphonic ring tones that the vehicle cannot support. Polyphonic ring tones- Polyphonic ringtones can create multiple tones and/or notes simultaneously. This produces a more natural and realistic sound for melodies. Most polyphonic ringers can also simulate the sound of various instruments, instead of just tones. Different phones support a different number of simultaneous instruments (chords) - anywhere from 4 to 40 or more.

Is it possible to adjust the fixed volume levels? Audio gain adjustments- to be used when customers complain about the volume level on the non car side being too loud or quiet. These adjustments do not have any effect on the processing of the audio.

Yes it is possible to adjust the fixed volume levels by using the key sequences below. 0000#1* SEND- reduces the volume out of the car by one step (non car side or landline) 0000#10 SEND- standard volume level 0000#1# SEND- raises the volume out of the car by one step (non car side or landline) 0000#99 SEND- factory reset The settings made / adjusted by that procedure will be peramanently stored in the cradle adaptor for each phone type specifficly. Changes made while e.g a Motorola V3 Razr is connected will adjust for ALL Motorola V3 Razr phones.

At what frequency does bluetooth operate?
Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz ISM Band.

When using bluetooth will the signal be transmitted to the exterior vehicle antenna as it does when a cradle is in use?

No, just the phone's antenna is utilized not the vehicle antenna.

Will the MHI Bluetooth Interface Module and the V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adapter be covered by MBUSA's warranty?

MBUSA will cover any product (i.e. MB Phones, MHI Cradles and BT devices) as long as it is branded by Mercedes-Benz. MBUSA realizing that the retail handset market operates with a 6 month average lifecycle and 1-year warranties, coverage for Mercedes-Benz MHI BT Interface Module and V60 BT Cradle Adapter will be limited at a 1-year with unlimited mileage, even when sold with a new vehicle, as of MY 2007. Any authorized MB dealer can submit a warranty claim for repairing or replacing the equipment. This is also true if the product is sold by AWS.

Will Bluetooth interfere with the navigation device, LCD screen, GPS, etc.?

1. Can any retail Motorola V600/V710 now be used with the MB MHI cradle?
No, the Mercedes-Benz branded handsets have a special software load that allows them to integrate with the vehicle.(MB V600 is not approved with the MB BT devices.)

2. Will Nextel handset be available in the future?

MBUSA is continuously testing Nextel handsets for compatibility with the vehicle system. However, the Push-To-Talk (PTT) feature offered on Nextel phones provides many technical limitations.
